TRSS Summer School at work The TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL (TRSS), a joint initiative of three British universities together with Hong Kong Baptist University, offers intensive research training in translation and intercultural studies for prospective researchers in the field.

Every year we organize two summer schools, each of two weeks' duration:

1. TRSS (UK) is held in the UK (in Manchester, Edinburgh or London) in the second half of June;

2. TRSS (HK) is held in Hong Kong at the end of July.

The units collaborating in the UK Summer School are the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester, the Centre for Intercultural Studies at University College London (UCL), and the Translation Studies Graduate Programme, School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, University of Edinburgh. In Hong Kong the relevant unit is the Centre for Translation at the Hong Kong Baptist University.

The 2013 session of TRSS (UK) will be held at University College London (UCL) from Monday 17 to Friday 28 June 2013.

The 2013 session of TRSS (HK) will be held at Hong Kong Baptist University from Monday 22 July to Friday 2 August 2013.

Each year approximately thirty students are admitted to the TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL in the UK. Most are research students in the early stages of their projects, but some are experienced staff who want to go into translation and intercultural research or who want to refresh their research skills.

Each year TRSS UK invites a high-profile researcher to deliver a public lecture and conduct a seminar with TRSS students. Invited speakers have been Ian Mason (2002), Maria Tymoczko (2003), Eva Hung (2004), Stuart Campbell (2005), Ebru Diriker (2006), Lawrence Venuti (2007), Paul Bandia (2008), Abé Markus Nornes (2009), Hélène Buzelin (2011) and Dorothy Kenny (2012).

HONG KONG TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL has been held since 2009 and more than twenty students were enrolled last year. Invited speakers included Naoki Sakai (2009), Seán Golden (2010), Juliane House (2011) and Sandra Bermann (2012).

All UK and Hong Kong TRSS students and alumni have access to an online course containing a range of self-access study materials and resources, and to the TRSS Intranet.
