TRSS Summer School at work The TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL (TRSS) is a joint initiative of three British universities and the Centre for Translation at the Hong Kong Baptist University. Every year we organize a two-week summer school in one of the partner institutions in the UK at the end of June, and a two-week summer school at Hong Kong Baptist University at the end of July. The summer schools offer intensive research training in translation and intercultural studies for prospective researchers in the field.

The units collaborating in the UK Summer School are the Centre for Translation and Intercultural Studies at the University of Manchester, the Centre for Intercultural Studies at University College London (UCL), and the Translation Studies Graduate Programme, School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, University of Edinburgh.

The UK Summer School was held in London in 2003, 2006, 2007 and 2010, in Edinburgh in 2004 and 2009 and in Manchester in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011. It is held again in Edinburgh in 18 -29 June 2012. See School Dates and Venue for details. The 2013 Summer School will be held in London.

The 2012 Hong Kong Translation Research Summer School will be held at the Hong Kong Baptist University during 30 July -10 August 2012. Details will be announced in early 2012. See School Dates and Venue for details about the 2012 event.

Each year approximately thirty students are admitted to the TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL in the UK. Most are research students in the early stages of their projects, but some are experienced staff who want to go into translation and intercultural research or who want to refresh their research skills.

Each year TRSS UK invites a high-profile researcher to deliver a public lecture and conduct a seminar with TRSS students. Invited speakers have been Ian Mason (2002), Maria Tymoczko (2003), Eva Hung (2004), Stuart Campbell (2005), Ebru Diriker (2006), Lawrence Venuti (2007), Paul Bandia (2008), Abé Markus Nornes (2009) and Hélène Buzelin (2011). The invited speaker in 2012 will be Dorothy Kenny from Dublin City University.

HONG KONG TRANSLATION RESEARCH SUMMER SCHOOL has been held since 2009 and more than twenty students were enrolled last year. Invited speakers included Naoki Sakai (2009), Seán Golden (2010), and Juliane House (2011). The invited speaker in 2012 will be Sandra Bermann from Princeton University.

All UK and Hong Kong TRSS students and alumni have access to an online course containing a range of self-access study materials and resources, and to the TRSS Intranet.
